ABAC 3.2.7.1.3 -- Official Office Hours
Administrative offices will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday. All full-time employees are expected to work a minimum of forty hours per week.
The College expects full-time faculty and staff to demonstrate their professionalism by assuming responsibility for quality efforts in both teaching and service to the Institution. As teaching professionals, they are expected to refrain from any endeavor or vested interest that would impede their effectiveness and efficient functioning as faculty members. They are further expected to maintain high visibility in service through professional activities to the extent that such service rendered does not interfere with their institutional duties.
ABAC recognizes the diverse components of faculty workload, which include the following:
· Preparation and grading
· Instruction
o Classroom
o Laboratory, and
o Studio
· Advising
· Engagement
o Mentoring,
o Coaching,
o Mentored research,
o Supervision of internships,
o Supervision of global studies, and
o Club sponsorship or advising.
· Scholarship
· Service
Fulfilling these duties requires that the faculty member be available to interact with students and peers. While the ten-hour minimum for weekly office hours is a guideline, it is construed as a minimum rather than as an acceptable average. Regular (planned and scheduled) office hours are an essential part of the work of faculty. Office hours shall be scheduled throughout the week to provide maximum convenience and accessibility and shall be posted in an appropriate place and in their course syllabus.
Part-time faculty are expected to provide students with ample opportunity to meet and discuss course materials and requirements outside the classroom. This is normally accomplished before or after the scheduled class period. Part-time faculty are expected to publish those times during which they will be available to students for conferences and to publish work and/or home phone numbers through which they may be contacted for individualized assistance.
